John is a senior corporate finance lawyer with significant experience in capital markets, M&A and private equity in the UK, continental Europe and Africa and a co-founder of Anthem Advisory, providing legal and commercial advice across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Prior to founding Anthem Advisory, John was a partner at a global law firm for over 15 years, where he headed the US corporate securities practice and was co-head of equity capital markets in Europe. Before this, John practiced at Freshfields.
Over the course of his career, John has had responsibility for closing several hundred transactions in a variety of sectors, with a particular focus on cross-border acquisitions and investments in emerging markets, and in particular, sub-Saharan Africa.
John is recognized as a "leading lawyer" by the IFLR and has been recognized in Legal 500 as "a ‘great asset’ who ‘knows his way around complex international work'".
John received a BA magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa, and has law degrees from both Oxford University and Columbia University. He recently completed an executive leadership course at Stanford University. He was one of 100 individuals named in the 2017 OUTstanding Leading Executives List, presented by The Financial Times.
