Chineke! Orchestra sees in the spring with a collection of works exploring the concertante genre, directed by Colombian violinist Julián Gil Rodriguez.
The evening opens with Jessie Montgomery’s Banner – a powerful and inventive work for string quartet and string orchestra, that reimagines the US national anthem and attempts to answer the question ‘What does an anthem for the 21st century sound like in today’s multi-cultural environment?’.
Mozart’s Wind Sinfonia Concertante is a charming and rarely-heard jewel featuring solo oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn, that showcases the talents of the orchestra’s wind players.
The programme also features one of Mozart’s greatest masterpieces – the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola, a glowing dialogue between two soloists, brimming with lyricism, wit and heartfelt expression.
